Curious Trails is built for young children and set up by you. Here is how it works, and what you can expect.
Who it is for
Curious Trails is designed for children aged approximately 4 to 8. When you create a profile you choose an age group. That only helps pick a good first activity: every world stays open, so younger children can try something harder and older children can enjoy something easy.
Visual and spoken, so reading is not needed
Young children understand pictures and voices long before they can read. That is why every instruction in Curious Trails is spoken, and why buttons use pictures, numbers and colours. A speaker button plays the instruction again whenever your child needs it.
Your child does not need to be able to read to use Curious Trails on their own.
Levels that grow step by step
Activities have several levels. Numbers get bigger, clocks move from whole hours to quarters and five minutes, colouring pages get more detail, and counting pictures gain more objects to tell apart. Children can always go back to an easier level. Trying again is part of learning, not a failure.
In the parent area you can see what your child has practised. This overview describes what was done; it is not a school report or a mastery score.
Choosing the language
Curious Trails speaks English, Dutch, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Turkish. You choose the language when you first open the app, and you can change it later in the parent area. The spoken instructions follow the language you choose.
No ads, no social features
There is no advertising in Curious Trails, no chat, no sharing, no friends list and no connection to any social network. Your child cannot contact anyone, and nobody can contact your child.
The parent gate
Profiles, settings, purchases and links that lead outside the app are protected by a parent gate. To pass it, hold a button for two seconds and answer a maths question. You can also use Face ID or Touch ID, or set a personal six-digit parent code: with a personal code, only that code opens the parent area.
A maths question stops young children, but older children may solve it. If that is a concern, set a personal parent code and keep it somewhere safe: without an account it cannot be recovered by email.
Purchases and subscriptions
Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple (and by Google once the Android version is available). You manage and cancel them in your Apple or Google account, not in Curious Trails. Plans and prices are only shown inside the protected parent area.

Your child’s data
Profiles use a nickname, not a real name or date of birth. Progress, gardens and drawings are stored on your device and are not sent to us. You can clear progress or delete a profile at any time in the parent area. Read the privacy policy.
