About this policy
This policy covers the Curious Trails app for iPhone and iPad, and the Android version once it is available. Curious Trails is published by Made by Balthazar, Belgium.
What Curious Trails does not collect
Curious Trails does not collect, store or share personal data. The app does not ask for or collect names, email addresses, location, photos, contacts or recordings. There is no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking or behavioural profiling of any kind. Curious Trails does not sell or share children’s data.
What is stored on the device
To work, the app keeps a few things in its own storage on your device: the nicknames and age groups of child profiles, practice progress, each child’s garden, colouring work and your settings, such as the language. If you set a six-digit parent code, it is stored in hashed form in the device’s secure storage. None of this is sent to us.
If you allow Face ID or Touch ID for the parent area, the app only receives the result of the system check (yes or no), never any biometric data.
Spoken instructions and the microphone
The spoken instructions are pre-recorded audio files that come with the app. They play on the device; nothing is recorded to produce them.
Curious Trails does not record your child’s voice. One optional activity, “Say your word”, lets a child say a word out loud and then write it. It stays switched off until a parent turns it on in the parent area, which is also when the system asks for microphone and speech-recognition permission. When it is on, the microphone listens only after a tap and stops within eight seconds. Speech is recognised on the device only, with no online fallback, and no audio, words or results from this activity are stored or sent. A parent can switch it off again at any time.
Purchases
Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple, or by Google for the Android version, depending on where the app was installed. Curious Trails never receives or stores payment-card details. The app only uses the purchase status the store provides, to unlock or restore full access. How Apple and Google handle the payment is described in their own privacy policies.
Internet access
After installation Curious Trails works offline. The app contacts the app store only to show prices, check or restore purchases, and manage subscriptions.
Links for parents
Links that lead out of the app, for example to this website or to subscription settings, are protected by a parent gate where needed, so a child cannot open them by accident.
Deleting data
In the protected parent area you can clear a profile’s progress or delete a whole profile including its colouring work. Removing the app removes its local data, subject to your device and backup settings. Because we hold no data about you or your child, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete on our side.
Children
Curious Trails is made for children and is designed so that it does not collect personal data from anyone, children included.
This website
This policy is about the Curious Trails app. The Curious Trails pages on madebybalthazar.com do not use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. Like any website, the server and our hosting provider (Cloudflare) process technical data such as IP addresses in server logs, to deliver the pages and protect them against abuse. We do not use that data to identify or profile visitors.
If you email us, we use your message and email address only to answer you. The contact page uses a simple email link, not a form.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
